Dress how you want to be addressed

Hi All!

Hope everyone is well!

I have always been a firm believer in that someone’s appearance reflects their effort, approach and attitude (controversial, I know!). And when I say this, I don’t mean that everyone should look the same and that everyone should always be dressed to the nine’s but it’s important to take pride in your appearance – whether that be simply brushing your hair or applying some light mascara.

Whether at work or play, I think it’s really important to make an effort. It shows that you take pride in how you appear, that you are actually bothered to be there and that you are enthusiastic!

Most importantly, it is essential that you portray the right image at work. This is your prime opportunity to present yourself and document how you want to be approached. Although, different work environments will reflect and dictate different dress codes, it’s still important to put your best foot forward whilst giving a sneak peak of your own personal style…

For me, I like to dress fairly smart at work. My staple pieces consist of:

  • Pencil Dress
  • Pencil Skirt
  • Slip Dress
  • Smock/Tunic Print Dress
  • Flowing Blouse
  • Blazer
  • Swing Waistcoat
  • Black Point Heels

I usually play around with some alternative casual items:

  • Leather skirt
  • Shirt dress
  • Loafers
  • Skinny Trousers
  • Wide leg culottes
  • Nude Wedges

However, it’s crucial to gage your work event. For example, attending a board meeting or conference wearing a leather skirt, loafers and plain t-shirt may not be the best idea but this look would be perfectly fine worn with a blazer for a day in the office.

Working the correct clothes is one thing, but it also pays to make sure you too, are looking presentable. For work, it’s important not to over-do it with drastic make-up looks with a simple black liner or bold lip but don’t go all-out girls night out glitter ball eye – or this can give off a bad impression. Keep hair simple – with a simple up-do – top knot or easy-going wave.

At play, let yourself loose and let your style take control! If like me, your style varies from day to day – taking on many personas – then embrace it. I work around my wardrobe’s staple pieces and change it up with accessories and footwear.

  • Skinny ripped knee jeans
  • Turtle neck jumper
  • Plaid shirt
  • Plain white tee
  • Denim pinafore dress
  • Leather jacket
  • Denim jacket
  • Black leather converse
  • Khaki western ankle boots

These are my basic pieces for casual wear and I can play around with these and mix with trend items to work with the seasons and occasions to create the right look for the right occasion!

My make-up doesn’t change too much between work and play – perhaps maybe a bolder lip and more contour with extra highlight but my make-up look more or less, stays the same. My hair again, is either up in a top knot or styled with a classic wave but if you’re feeling adventurous with your hair, then keep it in line with the occasion!

So, it doesn’t take much to throw that hair up in a top knot, pop on some gloss and throw together a simple but classic outfit whether at work or play – and that way, you will leave a lasting impression – and the right one at that!

Much love – This is Kirsty X

Exercise? I thought you said extra fries 🍟

Hi my lovelies! Hope ya’ll are well!

If you know me, you know that I love exercise. But sometimes, extra fries does sound a whole LOT better! I’m no diet follower and as a matter of fact, rarely watch what I eat (I should maybe change that for my own health) but I just love exercise, always have, always will.

If you’re like me, you’ll know that half of your wardrobe is full of gym and workout clothes. If I’m not wearing work clothes, I’m wearing gym clothes. So it’s important that we get to keep our style and for that matter, motivation up when working out! I have been doing a lot of running recently and this has given me even more excuses to go and buy some new workout gear.

As I start this week with an inflatable obstacle course 5K run and the Edinburgh Marathon 5K the following week, I’ve been raiding my wardrobe and outfit planning for upcoming events!

Left to right: Nike, Ivy Park, H&M

If you’re gonna change up your gym wear, I’d suggest starting with trousers. There’s nothing more exciting than a new pair of gym bottoms and sometimes it’s worth investing in a good pair –

  • Nike (on the cheaps in Outlet stores)
  • Sweaty Betty
  • Fabletics
  • Stella by Adidas
  • Ivy Park

These are my ‘luxury’ go-tos when buying trousers. You don’t want a pair of trousers rolling down, rolling up, being too baggy and ill fitting so it’s worth investing. However, it’s easier than ever to get gym-wear on the high street.

  • H&M
  • Misguided
  • Pretty Little Thing
  • Ellessee
  • Pink Soda

Left to right: Misguided, Adidas, Nike, Misguided

I’ve only recently starting being that bit more adventurous when it comes to my top half in the gym. I was a hoarder for dull black tshirts when I thought let’s change this up. I’ve recently been buying a lot more gym vests, funky tshirts and some bright coloured running jumpers.

Left to right: New Look, Nike, Primark, Misguided

  • Misguided
  • Primary
  • New Look
  • Nike

These are my ‘go-tos’ for gym tops. Whilst I think it’s really important to invest in some quality bottoms, I’ve found that most gym tops regardless of the price as equally as good!

Karrimor @ Sports Direct

Sports Direct (I know, I can feel your stress as your read this, just as much I feel writing it) has really been producing the goods at a fraction of the price!! It has to be my least favourite shop to go into but you do pick up some gems – like this insane running jumper for only £15!!

Sports Bras

Forget Shock Absorber and industrial strength support bras! I’m all over pull over bras from all over the high street at probably better than half the price! The pull over sports bras give you the exact same support without the hefty price tags.

Left to right: H&M, Nike

I’m never brave enough to wear just a sports bra to the gym but it’s still important that they look good because I have to see them and I know what’s going on under my top. And besides, if you can love your workout gear, the more likely you are to workout! My top picks for sports bras:

  • H&M
  • Nike
  • Adidas
  • Misguided
  • BoobyDoo.com (if you really do need that extra support)

So, get your gym swag on and motivation on fleek.

Have a great week – This is Kirsty X

What’s new?

Hi everyone! Sorry for the radio silence — between nursing a bad flu, a manic time at work and all things in between, This is Kirsty had become a little neglected.
So what’s new?

  • I have taken up running (like seriously, not the usual running I do in the gym which depends entirely on a treadmill and how much I can actually be bothered).
  • I have come to realisation that Nike trainers are not my best friend and that my Asics are the new found love of my life (except my Michael obviously).
  • I have eaten an impressive amount of avocados recently 🥑
  • Besides gym clothes and work clothes, all I wear is loungewear and my dressing gown of late.
  • My tollerence of bullshiters has decreased rapidly.
  • I have finally realised that I am actually buying a house this year and therefore, I am actually going to be an adult.
  • I have been reading a book for over 4 weeks now and still haven’t finished it (this is not like me at all).

Trainers – Asic

Firstly, big up to these babies because these have saw me wave goodbye to sore feet and ankles. Although they are not as pretty as my trusty Nikes, I have fallen out of love with Nike and found a new born relationship with these Asics. Anyone that runs, get yourself to Run4It and they will find you the perfect fit! I have been doing numerous 5ks and signed up for the weekly ParkRun which consists of three times round a park with one of the steepest hills I have ever seen! This means that I have signed up for an array of running days throughout the year including Rough Runner, Edinburgh Marathon 5K, Gung Ho and a swamp run (I have no idea why I agreed to this!!). But big up to these Asics for making running that bit easier.

Due to this hideous flu, I have been binging on avocado and green tea and I now fully understand the craze!!

Jumpsuit – Boohoo           Bag – Vivienne Westwood                          Shoes – Mango

Big up to loungewear as outerwear. I bought this amazing jumpsuit from Boohoo and it’s so comfy! It’s been perfect for the way I’ve been feeling (although very very annoying that you essentially have to undress just to go to the toilet!). Other than that, my pyjamas have seen their money’s worth and my dressing gown…well, are they ever given enough credit? (I’m sure we’ve all seen the memes).

Yeah, pretty much. There’s nothing that annoys me more than a Billy Bullshitter. Just save the effort. I don’t know if it’s an age thing or what, but ain’t nobody got time for that.

I thought adulting was drinking coffee, doing an online Tesco food shop and making adult decisions. I find it difficult to decide what I’m having for dinner at the best of times but here I am, buying a house. It turns out that being an adult is basically just like being a child but you have to actually pay for things yourself. I’m certain I will feel the same way, even into my 30s.

I even bought a book to help understand what adulting is!! I’m still no wiser. But this book is insane, it’s a must read and really funny! I was reading another book (I won’t name names) but I started reading it over 4 weeks ago and still haven’t finished it…(certainly not what adulting is).
Until next time –

Women’s Body Armour

Hi all!

Hope you all are well! I’m so glad to see the Spring weather finally emerging – all be it that it has it’s moments. I love nothing more in the Spring than simple outfits (because it’s still really cold!!) that I can change up with an array of accessories.

  1. A great pair of sunglasses

Sunglasses – Dior

Say ‘Hello’ to my new babies bought especially for the Summer. There’s nothing that symbolises a change in the weather like a new pair of sunnies. My old trusty ray bans have been hung up after 5 years of service and have upgraded to my Dior beauties. I was swaying between these and a Chanel pair but I loved that these are a statement piece – great for Summer and Winter.

      2. A statement timepiece

Watch – Olivia Burton

I usually wear plain silver/metal watches with quite a small face for everyday however, I got this gorgeous Olivia Burton watch as a gift and I love it! It’s such a great statement watch – especially for the Spring or Summer time because of the light colours. It looks great with a plain jumper and simple gold necklace or even dressed up in the evening as a statement piece with a black jumpsuit.

Ring – Own

I like to mix up bold statement watches with delicate and simple jewellery items such as this gold band. This was my Nanas wedding ring so I love that I can wear it with my everyday wear.

      3. A rodeo belt

Belt – Next

Love love love!! I got my belt from Next however, I know there is a lot of copy cats kicking about on the high street. The reason I bought this 1 was because the leather was so soft and I love the detailing on the base of the belt along with the double buckle and it was a size XS!! This never happens — you will know my pain if you’re my size and can never get a belt to fit properly.

        4. A great pair of sliders

Shoes – Birkenstock

Firstly, my boyfriend hates these! Therefore, I am determined to wear these as much as possible in his company. I on the other hand love them! I got mine on sale directly at Birkenstock for £45. They are so comfortable and look great with just about anything. A great alternative to all the high street versions.

        5. 90s scrunchie

Scrunchie – River Island

I wear my scrunchie all the time. Its my go to for hair disasters. If it needs tied up, when I’m chilling out and looks great with a sort of half up half down bun!

If you’re ever bored of an outfit or need to change things up, accessories are the go-to and can instantly transform any style!

“Accessories are the exclamation point of any outfit” – Michael Kors.

Living life as Thumbelina

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all are well!!

As a 5ft 0 23 year old, it can be so difficult to get jeans, trousers, dresses, shoes and in fact anything to fit perfectly! Even more so when you have boobs the size of a regular person, a butt and some glute muscles. Fellow thumbelinas, I feel ya.
Times are changing though. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see more and more high street brands featuring their “petite” lines. While it’s great that brands are catering for curve and plus size, I’m glad they haven’t forgotten about us teenie tinies.

Jeans and Trousers

For me, it’s difficult to get trousers and jeans that are a good fit with a teenie tiny waist that aren’t too long and can still get over my butt. Some of my favourite high street brands for jeans and trousers are:

  • New Look
  • Topshop
  • ASOS

These are my go-to when I need some new jeans or trousers. They fit perfectly around my waist without me needing to turn them up at the bottom and still have enough stretch to fit over my butt and thighs.

I recently bought some “petite” mom jeans from missguided and was extremely disappointed. They were HUGE!! I was really surprised as Missguided’s Petite line is normally really great but trousers have been a complete no no for me.

Zara have a great range of trouser and jeans on size 4 and the price point is great. The only thing for me is that they are not petite and need turned up for days.

Tops, Shirts and Blouses

My top half seems to be slightly longer and more normal sized than my legs so I find I can get away with non-petite tops. However, I do find petite lines give me that perfect fit. Baggy fitting or loose draped tops look great from petite ranges but these type of tops in normal ranges make me look swamped. My top 3 petite brands for tops are:

  • Topshop
  • Missguided
  • Boohoo

I have been loving PrettyLittleThing recently and love that they feature their regular line of clothing in size 4. They have some great fashion items and great prices and offers a fantastic alternative to similar items at higher price points in likes of Topshop and River Island.

Jackets and Coats

Jackets and coats are a nightmare if you’re 5ft 3 and under. Most regular fitting coats and jackets are ill fitting, oversized and too long until petite options came to the rescue. I love nothing more than a good fitting coat, a long flowing duster jacket and an edgy biker jacket as they can transform any outfit. Even better when they fit perfectly. My go-to for great outerwear are:

  • Marks and Spencer – Petite
  • Miss Selfridge
  • Topshop

Again Zara’s outerwear tops all and every season, their outerwear gets me adding yet more coats and jackets to my collection.

If I were to wear only one item of clothing, it would always be a dress. I’m such a girl and love nothing more than wearing pretty dresses. Dresses are thing I find myself most buying in petite ranges as all of the proportions are right. Whether it by a midi, maxi or mini, they all sit at the right length and contour all the right places. Regular fitting ranges can be too big at the waist (which for a mini person like me, makes me look wider than what I actually am), super long and generally unflattering. My ultimate dress heroes are:

  • Topshop
  • ASOS
  • Missguided

Whilst they don’t do a specific “petite” range, most of H&Ms dresses look great on us mini people and a true to size. I find they are especially good for work/smart dresses but have a gorge range of casual alternatives.

I used to hate shoes and it was simply because I couldn’t find a good fit. I’m a small UK 3 but mainly a UK 2 (Euro 35) but HUUURAHHHHH!!! The British High Street have finally started stocking UK 2s which means happy feet for me. Shout out to:

  • Topshop
  • River Island
  • ASOS
  • ZARA

It ain’t easy being eensy. Have a great week – This is Kirsty X

Obsessing over: NYX COSMETICS

Hi lovelies! Happy Saturday 💘

Hope you’re all well! I’m feeling super bleh (despite the fact it’s Saturday). I’m full of the cold, sore throat and super bunged up head so naturally the only thing making me feel better is some new makeup to play with 🤗.

I can’t get enough of NYX Cosmetics right now!

I bought my first NYX Cosmetics “Butter Gloss” lipglosses from Cult Beauty a few weeks ago and fell in love with them!

“Toasted Marshmallow” and “Madeline”. The texture is great as it’s not sticky at all, keeps your lips hydrated and the colour is strong. Everything a gal looks for in a lipgloss. 💄 and only £8!!

So naturally, I had to get my hands on more NYX goodies to experiment with.
This HD eye shadow base is insane! I love it. I can’t think what I done before I had my hands on this. It keeps your eye shadow on ALL day! It stops the shadow from creasing, keeps colour looking vibrant and helps colours go on more true to their pigment. There’s nothing worse for me than when I apply eye shadow and the colour is so drab compared to the swatch. It’s also such good value for only £5.50.

I used to use good old Topshop “pen marker” liquid liner – which I would highly recommend. However, as it’s started to dry out, I wanted to try something new. I’m very skepictal when it comes to eyeliner (and mascara – you have to invest in a good one!) but I love the NYX super skinny eyes marker liquid liner. It’s so easy to use – if like me, traditional liquid liner ends up everywhere all over your face!! The NYX super skinny eye marker allows your lines to appear straighter and neater. You can go thick or thin with the pen marker as you can build up colour, density and shape gradually. If there’s one makeup product you buy this weekend, make it this!! You can get it for only £8!

If I ever have too much of one particular makeup product, it’s lipgloss and lipstick. But can a girl really ever have too much??

I think not.

I got this divine NYX “Lip Lingerie” liquid lipstick in the colour “Push Up” which is a blush nude type colour – £6.50.  The colour goes on great and stays on for ages! I wear it with the NYX lip pencil in “Peekaboo Neutral”. The lip liners are only £3 which are way cheaper than some other cosmetic counters – I can see myself stocking up on an array of colours over the next few weeks! The liquid lipsticks are a great alternative to traditional lipstick as they are more moisturising and easier to glide on in a hurry!

All of the NYX Cosmetic products are great value for money with the same quality as more expensive beauty brands which is why I love it so much. So get on over to Boots and splurge!! (even better if you have a boots card with some advantage points!)

So after making my face look a little more pretty and little less stuffy, I’m off to get a new set of gel mani-pedi and enjoy some fun in the sun with my other half.

Have a great weekend everybody 💘

“You never get a second chance to make a first impression”

Happy April 🐰 new month, new chapter, new goals!
Be the person you want to meet.
First impressions always matter and it’s sometimes difficult to get rid of first impressions. So make it a lasting one.

Whether it be personal or professional life, we are always meeting new people and people are always judging you (whether they admit it or not — and you too make judgements on people). The thing I always notice when meeting people for the first time is eye contact and how they make me feel.

People always remember how other people make them feel — you can be left with real negative vibes or thinking they are really cool people. You will be respected much more if you treat people nicely. So think back to someone you look up to or have a lot of respect for – how did they make you feel when you first met them?

It’s important to focus in on what you say and how you say things. You can say the same sentence with very different meanings depending upon your tone of voice.

Eye contact is critical when it comes to developing a strong impression. Confidence and enthusiasm is shown through making eye contact and something that is a real bug bearer for me. By making eye contact you can build upon creating rapport with people without even realising it.

Appearance is everything. It’s how you create your own personal brand.

It’s key to always looks presentable whether that be making sure your hair is done, your shoes are clean or applying a little bit of lipgloss. When you feel like you’ve made an effort, you will feel much more confident in your own skin and this will beam out of you when meeting new people. But appearance is unique to you and people will respect that.

And lastly, always always always take a mint. Nobody wants to talk to someone with bad breath – I’m sure you wouldn’t either!

But most importantly be yourself, make friends, flatter legitimately, mean what you say, let people speak and remember nobody’s perfect!

Have a great week ❣️ This is Kirsty X
